2021 Web Development and Design Trends

Well, 2021 is almost on the verge, that is good news, so let's meet it with a portion of IT prophecies, in the form of upcoming trends in programming languages (in demand for specialists and application in development itself), web development and web design. So, for this article we’ve used analytics of Stack Overflow, TIOBE, Hired ratings and others.

Programming languages 2021:

  1. TypeScript boldly entered the top 10 programming languages, although it once showed promise. It confidently remains in top 5 of different ratings (from Hired to Octoverse), and is also actively developed by Google and Microsoft, which speaks of its demand in the coming year.

  2. JS still leads the Octoverse rankings. Of course, there are a number of complaints about some of its shortcomings, but it does not come out of top 10 popular and demanded languages and will not in the next year.

  3. Python has every chance of throwing JS off the pedestal, like in the TIOBE ranking. It is the best language for Machine and Deep Learning, AI, Web Development and Data Analysis. And since all of these areas are developing rapidly at the moment, the demand for Python developers will only be growing.

  4. The language that will definitely hit the list of in-demand in 2021 is Go. Yes, it is one of the 10 fastest growing languages in popularity, simple, and what's more interesting - Google is working on Go 2, which means improving its stability.

  5. Kotlin like GO, is not a trendy language at all, BUT similarly applies to rapidly developing and gaining popularity among programming languages, which means it can easily enter the trend of 2021.

  6. C languages - the greatest demand awaits them in the game industry.

And now let's move on to the web development trends, or rather to what will continue developing, will be interesting for investors and will be "developed" next year:

  1. PWA;

  2. AI;

  3. WebAssembly;

  4. Voice search and navigation;

  5. Mobile-First approach;

  6. Serverless architecture.

And finally, design trends:

  1. Immersive 3d elements.

  2. Soft shadows, layers and floats - all for greater depth and lightness at the same time.

  3. Overlaying of graphic elements over the photo.

  4. Vector graphics, since it all boils down to the fact that a high-quality site should be able to entertain the client and catch his eye, which means that only SVG can help us.

In general, AI, voice assistants, VR and AR are already influencing design, and will be even more changing and complementing it.

We hope that our article was useful and interesting for you, and for someone it may be a kind of vector in terms of development. See you next year in our Blog and be IT-trendy!
